Greetings all and first up let's say thank you to Anna, Shilpa, Jo, Louise and Mary(Linked In) for stopping by and reading my thoughts, potty poetry and more besides. As always, a pleasure to have you along.
I have my upcoming rune workshop coming up and I've done most of the work on my own booklet to accompany this. If anyone is reading this and fancies doing it on the 17th, give me a shout and we'll see what we can do. It'll be my first one at this and I'm looking forward to introducing some fab people on how I work with them and of course how they will too.
To get myself in the mood I've been watching Vikings Valhalla on Netflix and it's all good fun. For sure they play around with history but of course I'm sure we've all heard of King Canute who was pretty much the first Viking king of England. I loved the first series with Ragnar, Rollo, Ivar the Boneless and many more besides. I do recommend it if you're looking for something good to watch on the the old box. I've also seen quite a few little documentaries on youtube which tend to be more factual and entertaining too.
My attention starts to accelerate towards tonight's group and I shall be priming the drum very soon. I do enjoy drum meditations as the beat will take you to where you need to go although some do complain about getting a racket in their eardrums! Personally I really enjoy it and on balance most of the group do too. You can certainly journey with the beat if you allow yourself to let go.
Well, shall I scribe a few random creative words. Where shall we wonder off too today I wonder...
Stop. Let you heart breathe and just observe. There, right in the realms of the mist giants a glint of movement. Don't show your position but instead, find the haft of your axe. You can almost smell them now, those old shadows coming to form as they set foot upon the land.
They don't see you. However, you lower yourself down into the reeds and inch forward. You take in the size of the first raider. Slender, alert and looking for the merest hint of sound or movement. It's your land though. You maintain silence and observe for a few moments longer.
The scout beckons for others to follow. You take in four more figures, the last of them strong and armed with a vicious double handed sword. Two others wield daggers and one with a bow and arrow nocked. You deign to take down the archer first. You reach into your pocket and pull forth a slender knife. The blade flies and impacts into the middle of his throat. He falls with a gurgling fountain and one unheard prayer to his god.
Two more of your daggers fly and two more raiders hit the ground hard. The remainder cannot see you and the scout pulls back to the giant armoured fighter who howls a challenge into the shadows. You retreat into the darkness and once again broker patience whilst the scout slinks low. You are out of missiles. You push now to the edge of the reeds and dart with sudden haste towards the scout and with one swift swing of your axe liberate his head from shoulders.
There is no time to celebrate though for the titan comes at you with full fury. You are shocked by his speed and barely evade a well aimed blow at your head. You feel your heart pumping so hard from the thrill of battle. You look for weakness. His armour is strong and the eyes and neck are well shielded. A full breastplate protects his torso and steel guards his legs. He attacks. You roll away before finding perfect poise at the edge of the killing circle.
There is one plan that comes to your thoughts. To the warriors surprise you come at him and he parries the onslaught. You duck under one riposte and then chop upwards at the armpit of his sword arm where the armour is weaker. His wails and a great sword falls. You do not relent. Again and again your arm swings until at last the leviathan tumbles in the dance of the vanquished.
You rest for the skirmish has left you spent. You get to your feet after a while, strip the corpses of armour, weapons and purses and soon find their horses. You pray there will be no more raids this month.
