Hello dear friends. It would appear to me that the air has chilled somewhat and it wont be long before those jumpers will be upon the body. Hard to believe that just a few weeks ago we were all transforming into our own little lagoons of sweat. Upon that note let's spread the love and kudos to Anna, Shilp, Jo, Russell and Vanessa for stopping by on my previous post and liking, loving, sharing and commenting.
Today I'm thinking about how we go and name things. It's quite a simple idea but there's a lot that can go into it. I will think about two items with myself in what I call my esoteric services and the novel I'm working on. Believe me, the ideas didn't just pop in my head, they took a while to come along.
Let's start with Shiny Souls Reiki. Picture if you will a scenario where this quirky character had just passed his level 2 and sought to offer his services to all and sundry. He thought of a few things to call his trade and it ranged from Reiki Services (wake me up when you see this one) to Gary's personal touch (err, what kind of joint is this?) and a few more I can't recall. As you can see it's quite difficult to find something that's rather catchy. Then one day I thought, how does this Reiki make me feel and I thought well actually shiny and new and then on what level does it heal and soul level came together. Stick Shiny and Souls together and voila we have a combination that sits quite well, especially with the aliteration.
Now Shadow Fruit took me ages to cobble together. Anna will know from her reading of my edition that she's read that in the header I put Closing of the mind as a working title. It's as interesting as mouldy dough in a pool of fungal scum (though I dare say some would find that interesting) and clearly not fit for purpose. It was at a writing course that I stumbled upon two polar opposites that I thought would fit the bill. Shadow clearly has those sinister connotations and Fruit indicates that something good is ready to eat. This fits the whole point as it's a gift that is ready to be used but there are some serious side issues to be aware of.
I guess it's the same when it comes to naming people, pets and whatever else comes to mind. We'd love our names to be sparkling and original but at the same time not totally bonkers, especially as someone may have to grow up with that name. I mean, imagine naming your child after Donkey Kong the video game or Frodo from Lord of the Rings. You might think it's fabulous, but that child and then adult probably wont thank you later. However, they'd probably want something different than John, Peter to be that little bit different. Not that I've anything against those names, I've met plenty of John and Peter's over the years but it's kind of nice to be different.
As for me, the name Gary I guess suits me well. My name is actually dying out by all counts so that does make my name a bit unique now although it was quite popular I believe back in the 60's. Note also I'm one R not Garry and remember having a discussion about the said same issue with a Garry back at school. However, that was a long time ago at dawn of the 80's.
So there we are, a bit more light hearted than yesterdays subject and how about you? Are you happy with your name and if not what would you love to be called? On that note I shall end with gratitude and remember everyone, keep reading.
Things to be grateful for.
A busy October coming up
