Writer's picture: Gary HewittGary Hewitt

Greetings all and first up let's send out the love and gratitude to those who read and commented, loved and shared my last post. Not so many readers but we all live hectic lives and for me it's always good just to put some thoughts out there. So here's to Anna, Shilpa, Sarah & Donna for taking the time to come along.

My thoughts turn to last night and the writers' group I run once a month. It's a very bijou affair and I purely do this for the love of writing and getting like minded souls to come along. What amazes me is the quality of work that comes through in just a little session like this and it is so pleasing just to hold the space and let the fountains of creativity spring forth. It's not me being a teacher or anything like that, more a case of writers coming together and letting the words flow. If you've a love of writing and would like to join us, then drop me a message and I'll add you to the party. All you need is imagination, a pen and a good dose of energy.

We worked on the first and second person perspective last night. We was going to do the third person too but ran out of time which is a jolly good sign as it proved the creative flow was in full effect. We had a newcomer too who made that old mistake of saying I'm not good enough, you're so much better than me and so forth. Nonsense. It's natural for all of us to compare ourselves to others and it doesn't help us. If I compare myself to luminaries in the field of horror such as Stephen King or Graham Masterton, I might as well hang up my pen and go to sleep.

As for saying we're not good enough, who can say that? Rather than think I'm not good enough, let us instead think, how can I bring this to life? What little tools can I bring to the piece and always remember that once it's finished you've brought life to the page that was not there before. I think of myself when I draw. I may put together a little stick man walking on a street by a box that resembles a house but it matters not. I've given it a go and that's what matters. In time, I may well learn nuances to improve or perhaps not. If it gives you pleasure, then by all means do it.

On the writing front, there are a few more things I aspire to do today on that score. A bit more writing on one of my novels, a bit of editing, submitting and whatever else springs to mind. By the way, have a look at a bit of fun I had with an old poem of mine (very Faustian) and playing around with videos. You're feedback is much appreciated as not many take the time to look at this sort of thing and tend to scroll past it.

I shall now crack on with my day and it's a rest day on the fitness programme too. This ought to allow the body to readjust before the next session tomorrow. In the meantime, take care and much love to all those who take the time to read my musings. Remember, keep reading.
