Greetings all and as I just start to type the Sun has just come out to smile, divine timing eh? Well, without further ado let's send huge love and gratitude to the following superstars who are Marion, Anna, Amanda, Shilpa and Jo. Thank you for reading, sharing, loving, liking, commenting and spreading the word.
It may well come as no surprise that today I pay homage to those marvellous ladies who showed the men how to play football and win. I know many aren't too enamoured with football but the passion, heart, fair play and above all talent shone through and so refreshing to watch. You can't help but think this is the start of something very special for these ladies and those who follow. No longer will it be football is a man's game...think again, times are a changing and all for the better.
However, as brilliant as it was for the England team what shone through for me was the friendliness and the joy in the crowds and all around. Look back to last years final when there were quite frankly horrendous scenes with drunken mobs gate-crashing the ground, knocking people out the way, resorting to violence and just generally being obnoxious and rather vile. None of that as far I can see yesterday and those supporters ought to look at yesterday to see how things should be done and how to behave.
I know a friend who went to the game and there was a lovely picture of England and Germany fans smiling together and cheering before kick off and bringing a carnival atmosphere. There was none of that inane booing of the national anthems, just respect. Can you imagine that with the men? They'd probably knock lumps out of each for one being from say Manchester and another from London.
Seriously guys, look to the ladies and learn something. A lot of it does comes from the expectations from society about how men should behave in football. It's indoctrinated from generation to generation. I've been to a mere handful of matches over the years and there is that tribal undercurrent that can be unpleasant. Definitely a case of primal energy which you can trace right back to gladiatorial crowds back in Roman times and no doubt before. To be honest I'd rather go and watch speedway where it's far friendlier.
Who knows one day we might look at a football match and just see the sides. Not the mens team or the ladies team but two teams of humans. When that day arrives we really are getting somewhere and maybe even mixed teams, who knows? Who's to say the next step wont be a woman in charge and being successful at a top club. It happens in business already so why not in sport too? It will happen sooner than later I fancy.
Anyway, congratulations to the ladies once more and remember everyone keep reading.
