Greetings all and surprise surprise the monochrome has returned to the skies. I was going to say the skies above me but isn't that a bit obvious, they're hardly going to be below me, well unless I'm on a space shuttle but that seems just a bit unlikely methinks. Anyway, let's share the love for those who stopped by and said hello so here's a shout out to Anna, Jo and Shilpa. Thanks for the love, likes, comments, shares and taking the time to read.
My musings today take me to some of the foolishness I've seen on social media regarding the passing of the Queen. I've seen some quite frankly offensive and obtuse comments about reptiles and lizards. I ask myself where an Earth does this barmy rationale come from? I can understand the anti-monarchy argument and to be honest I think now the Queen has passed the monarchy will move into an even more of a figurehead role. True power lies in government as it has for a good few hundred years now. The days of direct rule from kings and queens has long since elapsed.
I understand well good coherent logical debate and the divisions of class, wealth and socialist beliefs. I myself have left wing tendencies and believe in a fair democratic and just society and will gladly read and listen to arguments on both sides. However, when I see statements dragged up from some spurious websites or a self proclaimed prophet spouting absurd evidence with little to no background about reptiles and so forth it makes the whole thing a circus. If you want a well rounded analogy on what the Queen represent to the country and the world, you'd do well to read an excellent article written by Billy Bragg, an activist and songwriter who's been around for a good while now. You'll find the context here hopefully : https://www.facebook.com/billybraggofficial
Surely if you're against the monarchy you'd find proper substantive issues on the social divide which would add much more gravitas to your argument. Yes, there are no doubt excesses in the behaviour of certain royals, that's been going on for centuries. Look to Henry VIII who probably took those excesses to extreme levels, or Charles the First who paid for his with his neck and took the whole country to a Civil War. Imagine the arguments I'm hearing now placed in the mid 17th century. "I'm a cavalier, I'm a roundhead and err oh you're a gecko." All a bit daft really isn't it?
Anyway, there's my musings for the day before I go let's have my three articles of gratitude.
