It's but a tool

Greetings all and we come to the start of a new week or is it the end? I always used to think of Sunday as the end of the week but it is seen as the start is it not? What works for you? Well, on that quandary let's express love and gratitude to Marion, Anna, Rae, Jo, Vanessa, Shilpa, Sue, Vanya, Annette and Christopher for stopping by on my post yesterday.

Yesterday was a fine day with some challenging healings and readings which I loved. I'm also working on my bloodless horror tale and just over 2k words have been passed. I'm pretty sure the deadline is about to run out or has gone and some may say, oh no, Gary you've missed the boat. To which I reply there's always another. I could probably submit it but the best thing about writing is editing the story to make it just so. To send it off now is to send a half baked tale and the refinement is just as important as the telling. Stephen King does two drafts as a rule, the first to dump the content, the second the make the magic happen.

Anyhow, I've got some lovely Enya playing in the background. This is fine music to scribe too or actually just relax. Give it a whirl. Today I'm covering an area which I'm sure I've covered in the past but it'd be nice to give it a fresh coat of thought which you may or may not agree with. It's all fine whichever way you wish to go.

It's all about this social media and in a recent meeting someone told me they'd just about had enough of Facebook and are taking a holiday from it all. I've felt like deactivating mine in the past and I'm sure that some reading this have done so before and it goes for all the social media be it Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok or whatever. The question is why?

Social media is a fantastic tool. It can allow you to reach out to new people, familiar acquaintances and whole new groups too. The issue lies in two spheres in my mind. Firstly, where we scroll down looking at all those statuses, dramas and so forth in people's lives. It's a platform where we can vent our spleen, look for sympathy and support, run someone down, post pretty pictures, horrible ones, spew out beliefs be they nice or hostile. My friends, it can be overwhelming. What's the solution? Stop scrolling :)

Secondly, it can eat into your time in a huge way. When you clicking here and there you suddenly realise that an hour or two has passed and you think what exactly have I been doing for the morning, afternoon or evening. The nickname Crackbook is well earned. Solution, limit yourself with a little timer or something. With those notifications, look at them en-masse and some just remove if you feel they are irrelevant. Taking these steps will help immensely. I will apologise now to those who think oh Gary never comments on my posts etc. That's because I've taken the conscious decision to limit my browsing to those very close to me or happen to see a post.

Ok, so we've taken these steps. What do we do with it then? That my friends is where you find your freedom.. Getting back to what we should be using this platform for me is to post my blog posts, my little creative endeavours on Canva and to let people know what courses, services I'll be offering. I'll use it to put up pictures from my life now and then but not all the time. Yes, I've been susceptible to all the points I've raised in the past but making those minor adjustments has improved the social media aspect immensely.

Ergo, going forward I would just say to you all keep an eye on things and if you find Facebook or whatever really getting to you have a look to see what you can alter. If certain people are getting under your skin put them on restricted access, unfollow them and above all, remember social media is a tool and not the be and end of all.

On that note I shall end and please feel free to share if you so desire. Remember, keep reading.
