Greetings all and Friday is here already. Goodness, don't those days sprint by? Anyway, let's spread the love and gratitude to Marion, Anna, Shilpa, Jo and Andrea for taking the time to read and comment, like, love and share my previous entry.
Last night we had quite a good old session in my development group which really ended up being a discussion with a little bit of reading. We used those Shadow and Light cards and they are actually very effective. The thing is that the readings that were given could relate to each one of us who came along and it's awesome when we get these collective readings.
One thing that does spring to mind today is the element of impatience. I see this quite a bit where people expect immediacy to their everyday lives. It could be oh, that order should have been here ten minutes ago, could be tapping your foot in some angst whilst waiting for your food at a restaurant, it could be that manager hammering a pen into the desk whilst analysing his watch whilst that report is late.
The impatience that we see reflects the society we reside in. We are taught from a young age that things have to be done swiftly. In a realm of KPI's, targets, spreadsheets and the faceless ones who punch numbers into keyboards this is impatience on steroids. I've seen it in warehouses where some nameless wonder will decree new productivity targets merely by looking at a few reports.
Don't you just wish that we could be just a little bit more empathic rather than sprint around like demented little zebedees to achieve someone else's goal? You look abroad to some cultures and life is so different. They get things done at their pace and prove you don't need this come on get to it approach. They don't pray to the productivity deities but more the gods of harmony and fairness.
However, let's stop and analyse how we can curb impatience in our lives. When those thoughts come along, ask yourself these questions: Is it really that important? Is the impatience I'm dishing up on someone else reflecting on me? Is it so bad to take just that little bit longer? I'm sure in many cases we can improve our mood when we find a different answer. Of course, there are times in life when immediacy is required (eg, helping someone in distress) but you'll find in the main they are few and far between.
Therefore, when those huffs and puffs start ruminating in your lungs, take a step back, raise a smile and have a chuckle at the absurdity of it all. Let's take our time a little bit more, attend to a touch of mindfulness and be a rebel to improve our own time management. Sounds pretty good to me.
Have a wonderful Friday and remember everyone, keep reading.
