Greetings all, I hope you have taken advantage of those rays of decadent sunshine that came our way today. Naturally, it's time to offer my gratitude to all you superstars who took the time to read, comment, share and love/like my previous posts. So thank you must go to Anna, Shilpa, Marion and Sarah. Much love to each of you as well as those who prefer to remain silent in the shadows.
Let us begin with the finale of yesterday. I have pretty much completed the first draft of the energy vampire tale, did a real good working over of an old supernatural tale and I quite like how it reads now. Then it was development group which ended up being a one to one session with Anna. Of course this meant she had no choice but to read for me but goodness me, my dear, you were outstanding. Super impressed and that's not just me waxing lyrical but being totally honest and long may you reign.
Today, whilst at the centre on lunch there was a nasty road accident. Thankfully, no-one got seriously injured and the emergency services came along to deal with things as soon as they were able. However, that's not the main focus here, what did become apparent is the odd world of haste and lack of compassion.
The road was soon sealed off in both directions but that didn't stop people trying to get through whilst a few of us attempted to remove the debris and make sure everyone was ok. Motorbikes thought it was quite all right to edge their way through and even a couple of cars tried their luck. Thankfully, the cars were thwarted by the fire engine who then parked at an angle to prevent their advance.
Soon after the police arrived and promptly placed signs and cones across the road. However, the motorbikes and cyclists still thought they could get through much to the annoyance of the officers who sent a few scurrying back to whence they came. What they don't realise is if they annoy the constables by bungling through is that they may well take down their registration and fine them at a later date. Towards the end, one officer marched down to a couple of impatient drivers on the wrong side of the road to enquire how the recovery vehicle was to escape. They soon skittled off with their exhausts between their wheels.
It takes me back to an old, old episode from my days at HMV. I recall a chap on a ladder fixing a light near the toilets and he fell off and rolled about in some pain. Then the toilet door opened and the returns supervisor, said "excuse me", stepped over his prone body and just went back to work without checking on the poor unfortunate soul, who, as luck would have it, just had a scratch along his belly and no doubt a bruise or two.
Truly things are in a place where it's all hustle, bustle and forget about the common good of your fellow human beings. These days, if you have something happen you're more likely to be on a Youtube video first than have someone help you. The officers did tell us about some voyeurs they'd encountered on previous excursions who in turn incurred their wrath. When did we become a society of "I,I,I?"
For me, it goes back to the 80's and the rise of the "yuppie" class where it was seen as an asset to climb over everyone else to reach the top. Opulence, obscene wealth and materialism were the new Gods to pray too and it's evolved from then. No doubt others would say the curse of capitalism started way before then but that is the moment it became apparent to an ageing teenager tiptoeing into his twenties.
I do pray that one day we will rid ourselves of this false ideology. I know that my readers in general wouldn't do such a thing as I have described today, they are people who are compassionate, kind and genuinely lovely warm souls. I just wish as a society we could remove that monkey of money and impatience and simply be nice. One day, eh?
And upon that note is time for adieu. I shall soon attest to the task of editing and a dose of my daily Qi Gong. And remember...keep reading.
