Cat and a stranger...

Greetings all, and here we are for today's look at what's floating around in the ether of my awareness and imagination. As always, first up a huge thank you to Anna, Louise, Jo, Shilpa and Ian for commenting/loving/liking my previous post. Anna's also given me a challenge to write something regarding the cat and a stranger. Hmm, I'm sure I can cobble something together.

Well, Wordle time. I did solve the riddle this morning in 4 attempts I believe which is the norm. Quite a tricky one but I managed to unearth the solution with a bit of thought. It's quite similar to that game Lingo which is on the telly, but thankfully, no time limit or I would be struggling to get it done.

Today, the weather wasn't quite so inclement so I decided to adorn a suitable pair of boots to traverse the quagmire in the woods. It actually wasn't quite as severe underfoot as I envisaged but Wellingtons were certainly in order. I also decided to witness what dear Eunice unleashed last week. She did play havoc and several wooden giants were wounded and yet it could have been much worse. One poor old tree took a battering in the last storm where one limb fell and Eunice decided to tear asunder another huge branch. The defiant one is still standing but there is little left of the stout fellow who has a huge crack running from the midriff. I fear another aerial assault will tear him down.

Now for the challenge. Whilst exchanging views with Anna on my post I was pondering on what to write about next and Anna suggested the Cat and a stranger, hence the title of today's post. Ok imagination, let's go on a journey to the outer limits of a feline expedition of some renown.

I purr when a delicious feast of beef and lamb arrived. I stiffen my tail and settle down for a treat. My owner brushes his hand down my back. I ignore the unwarranted affection and focus on the meal. Perhaps if he was lucky, I might deign him some attention later. If not, claws ensured a peaceful night's rest.

My human curses, everything lurches left. However, the food stays in place. My body adapts to the sudden dispersal of energy. When I first arrived the experience was disconcerting, yet now no issue. Feline's accepted change when required.

I sport a glance at my owner. He stamds over an odd box making all sorts of strange whirrs and ticks. He exclaims when sparks fly from the device. He paces frantically up and down. I hide in the shadows whilst the fool dashes hither and tither. I sense fear in his energy.

With no warning, our world heads one way and then the next. Everything propels forward. I guess we were going down. I leap with ease behind a steel crate and make myself as small as possible. The human, I believe his name was Jake, tumbles in an awkward mess of flesh and bones and makes an awful racket. I wait.

Impact. Not a particularly nice sensation. Our environment fractures into a spiral of broken plates, cups, food and various other debris. Jake made a dreadful noise then fell rather silent. I quite liked him, but I guess from now on it's just me.

At last, a halt. I dart out from my hiding place and glance around. I can't recognise much of anything. Everything's turned into a miasma of confused wreckage. I witness one idle leg sticking out from behind a bench. I mew once for my former owner and espy a hole. I head for that aperture at once for the heat and acrid air is overpowering.

The air outside strikes me. The richness of the atmosphere fills my lungs with alien energy. I feel so alive. The plants offer a wonderful shaded vantage point where I can explore. My ears pick up a rustling sound. I pad with great care to the cause of the disturbance.

Ahead lays a strange little creature. He reminds me of those delicious flying pests back home. Jake told me off once when I caught one. Jake isn't here anymore. The little stranger has no clue about me getting closer. My claws sharpen with each careful step. My mouth salivates at the prospect of new meat.

I stop, generate strength in my back legs and wait for the perfect moment. I love hunting and here in this strange world I'm unstoppable. The feathered one looks my way but too late. With one swoop I claim my prize. I sniff. Others are nearby for I hear their protests high in the trees. Yet none dare come near. I seize my prize and head into the undergrowth. I quite like this new home.
