Hmm, so it seems there is more butchery and savagery happening in the conflict in Ukraine. It seems that each passing day new atrocities are uncovered and the general dehumanisation of mankind continues to the detriment of all. You have to wonder what goes on in people's heads to unleash such depravity.
This is nothing new though. Let us go back to times of Ancient Rome and the words of "Vae Victus" which translates as woe to the conquered if memory serves me right. What this means is that if the Romans defeated you then they would unleash hell on their foes and pretty much the same heinous acts we are seeing now would have been perpetrated on the vanquished. There is a tremendous corruption of ego occurring here where those who win see themselves as vastly superior to those who've been defeated and to the victor go the spoils, be it taking what they want or to indulge in the basest nature of the human being.
Throw into the mix the effects of mob rule. Clearly, it would seem the conquering army are lacking effective leadership. Where are the officers to maintain order and discipline. There is none. Not only are the army killing and looting at will but they are indulging in drunken behaviour and alcohol and deadly ordnance are a dreadful mix. The element of sadism where people are shot almost as a kind of sick entertainment grows ever worse. You can imagine the criminals being egged on by those around them and this is the nightmare of mob mentality. Look at football matches where violence can suddenly be unleashed when there is the system of tribe mentality. This tribal effect on a far more savage scale is happening in East Europe.
It is hard to fathom what to do in the face of such violence. There is little point in speaking to these people as they will not care. Threatening them with war crime cases, sanctions will have very small meaning to those of a savage mind. The politicians need to come up with new ideas to combat the scourge now prevalent which continues to worsen. Let us not fool ourselves though, as dreadful as this is it has happened recently in Rwanda, Bosnia and Syria just to name a few places. Look how we turned a blind eye to Saddam Hussein when he was on the side of the west when he held a bloodbath of a war with Iran. We never learn do we?
All we can do is think and pray for those poor souls who are just like you and me wherever they are. Most of them couldn't care less about war and just want to go about their daily lives in a way that's right for them and how dare anyone just mow them down because they are liberators or soldiers of fortune. The only redemption for those poor souls is the karma that is assuredly waiting for their slayers.
