A place of parody.

Hello dear friends and what a fun start to the day. Lots of power cuts and little bits of silliness today so let's embrace the precept of just for today don't worry. On that note let's say thank you to Anna, Shilpa, Jo and Andy for stopping by and commenting, liking, loving and sharing the content I posted yesterday. Much kudos and love to each of you and it was a nice surprise to meet Andy in the flesh yesterday too for his sneaky treat of burger and chips!

Today my thoughts are drawn to those video sites where we post away to our hearts content for likes and views. Whilst looking at the array of people in ludicrous poses, silly effects and prancing around in all sorts of ways it kind of hit me. Are we all not being mocked in some nefarious way to make complete fools of ourselves? I cannot help but think it's like there's some sort of training like making a dog beg for food, being the lion that's tamed or being the clown. Truly, TikTok and their competitors are circuses looking for acts to fill the big top.

Now I'm all for having a bit of fun. Heck, I've even posted a couple of fun little animal videos up for the purpose of light hearted relief yet not to make a complete tomfool of myself or others. Yet, too often I see this happening on those platforms and I'd ask those of us who feel obliged to post on there (including myself) of what they're doing. Are you informing, passing the time, having a natter or being a court jester?

If it's the latter then that's fine if you're happy doing that but do have a think of is that how you'd like to be represented. I'm not surprised that the more serious stuff tends to have few views and yet it's important to remember that whilst those views/comments may be far less they are also likely to be far more relevant to you. Let's imagine I posted a book review video with a football match being the thing that grabs peoples attention. Whilst it may get lots of views from footie supporters they have no relevance to my material (unless it's about football.)

It's far better to have considerably less viewers who actually may well interact with you as opposed to just whizzing off elsewhere. Our attention spans these days are somewhat diminished to what they were in the past. Even a five second video often has people stay for a second. It's tricky to keep their attention for any length of time, especially with content that has a certain amount of gravitas.

So there we are, a few little errant thoughts from yours truly. Have a wonderful Monday and remember, keep reading.

Things to be grateful for.

  1. The power being back on

  2. Being sold out on my Reiki Masters course

  3. Watching Clear and Present Danger last night, quite a good film.
